About This Activity

Bio: Shianne grew up in central Pennsylvania in the Bedford area. She was involved with dance since she was young and did so until she was 18. After graduating from Chestnut Ridge High School, Shianne went on to study Accounting and Entrepreneurship at Penn State. She successfully finished her schooling at Penn State in 3½ years earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and a minor in Entrepreneurship. Shianne continued her love for dance by taking Zumba classes. After taking classes at the State College YMCA, Shianne was inspired by her instructor to continue with her passion of music and fitness. In doing so, she developed such a great appreciation for Zumba that she became a certified instructor for adults. She is a substitute Zumba Instructor at the State College and Bellefonte YMCAs. Her passion for Zumba grew even bigger to the point where she became a certified instructor for children. Introduction/Goals: Each week the children will be introduced to a new dance (including Cumbia, Salsa, and Hip-Hop) and a brief history behind the dance and the country it comes from. Zumba Kids/Kids Jr. is designed to combine movement, music and community in a class for children. These classes are high-energy dance parties packed with specially choreographed, kid-friendly routines and all the music kids love. Kids love it because its cutting edge and fun. Parents love it because it’s active, fun and for the effects it has on their kids – increasing their focus and self-confidence, boosting metabolism and enhancing coordination. Shianne hopes to expose children to other cultures through dance and fitness with Zumba Kids/Kids Jr. Also, she hopes to expand their creativity and to help grow their self-confidence. She believes that by kids taking Zumba Kids/Kids Jr. will allow them to have better coordination and will increase their focus.
