The unique biodiversity of Puget Sound provides an ideal classroom that changes with the tides and seasons. During Marine Explorers, campers will explore all aspects of the marine ecosystem. Campers will engage in marine and freshwater science activities such as designing and engineering plankton nets, exploring the salmon management, using quads for biodiversity sampling, and learning how to analyze their nature data. They will investigate creatures of the deep through tide pools and touch tanks, and learn the basics of sea kayaking as we explore Budd Bay and the surrounding waters. By the end of the week, we will take a kayak journey to Hope Island to explore and identify organisms on and around the island, learn sampling techniques, and study marine phytoplankton.
