When it comes to helping your child select a book, the question is two-fold: "What is my child interested in?" and "What is their independent reading level?" 

Whether it's for their required weekly reading log, a book report or just for fun, helping your child pick a book that will nurture their own drive to keep turning the pages could be the nudge they need to keep reading or create a bonding experience over something they've already grown to love. 

After all, a book a child is interested in reading will be one that is hard to pry from their hands. Here's a list of the most common kid-friendly library check-outs these days (and some classics dug up from the past) to help keep your child reading!

Older Readers: 5th to 8th Grade

Diary of a Wimpy Kid series by Jeff Kinney: This is a popular series about middle school as told by a reluctant, but prolific young middle school writer in words and comic-style pictures. There are a total of 16 books in the series. (Reading Level: 5.2-5.8)

Dork Diaries series by Rene Russell: This parallels the style of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. It's another journal entry filled with a series of stories that illuminate the troubles of middle school. This time, though, it's from the perspective of a young girl. This series contains 17 books.
