Wheaties Honors its First Triathlete

May 30, 2007

Wheaties announces a special-edition package rolling out this week featuring one of the world's greatest triathletes, Hunter Kemper. The Breakfast of Champions continues its tradition of honoring legendary athletes and celebrates Kemper's outstanding triathlon career, adding yet another honor to his impressive list of personal and professional accomplishments.

Excellence in all three triathlon events—swimming, cycling and running—has made Kemper one of the most well-rounded athletes as well as a fierce competitor. As the first American male triathlete ever to be crowned number one in the world, Kemper will set his sights on the inaugural Hy-Vee ITU World Cup in Des Moines, Iowa this June—the largest prize purse in professional triathlon history.

Throughout his career, Kemper's performance and personal drive have solidified his championship reputation in this demanding sport, garnering him numerous accolades, including three-time International Triathlon Union World Cup winner, six-time U.S.A. Triathlon national pro champion and winning the Life Time Fitness Triathlon—a unique "equalizing" race where women and men compete side by side. He also competed in the 2000 summer games in Sydney and in the 2004 games in Athens, earning him top American triathlete honors at both events.

Having competed on the world's grandest stages in the sport—including a top ranking in his sport and a new dad to boot—Hunter Kemper is a true Wheaties champion both on and off the course.

"I'm honored to be featured on the cover of a Wheaties box—the Breakfast of Champions," said Kemper. "I grew up admiring many of the athletes featured on the Wheaties box, and now to have my own picture gracing the cover, I couldn't be more excited. I'll be sharing this ultimate achievement with my family and my fans."

"Wheaties is thrilled to honor Hunter Kemper for his commitment and dedication helping elevate the sport among many," said Dan Stangler, Wheaties marketing. "It's only fitting that he joins the Wheaties family in honor of his remarkable achievements over the years in the sport of triathlon."

The new 18-ounce Wheaties package is now available nationally. This marks the first time Kemper has appeared on a Wheaties box, and the first time a triathlete has appeared.
