About This Activity
Instructor: Dr. Nancy Mastro spent 40 years in K-12 education in Minnesota as a teacher and administrator. She also taught graduate and undergraduate courses at the university level. In retirement, she writes historical fiction. In 2025, Black Rose Writing published her debut, Solitary Walker: A Novel of Mary Wollstonecraft. She lives in Aiken. Description: Did you know that the writings of eighteenth-century British philosopher Mary Wollstonecraft helped inspire the women’s rights movement in America during the middle of the nineteenth century, including the first women’s rights convention in Seneca Falls in 1848? Her writings also influenced the march toward suffrage and helped shape the women’s equal rights movement in America during the twentieth century. In this hour-long course, we’ll look at how and who was most influenced.
