About This Activity
Instructor: Dr. Maureen Simpson has performed in over two dozen operas in the United States and Europe, as well as numerous appearances with symphonies and choral societies. She attended the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia and the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria. Dr. Simpson is currently Artistic Director of the Aiken Choral Society. Description: Dr. Simpson, Aiken’s own resident diva soprano, will discuss the following operas: 1. Così fan tutte (in theaters Sat., 10-3-26 @ 1:00 pm) 2. Macbeth (in theaters Sat., 10-17-26 @ 1:00 pm) 3. Samson & Delila (in theaters Sat., 12-5-26 @ 1:00 pm) These sessions will introduce historical and musical background, composer issues, performing problems, and plots, providing both beginner and veteran operagoers with a deeper insight into each work.
