About This Activity

Instructor: Matt Henderson serves as a Lecturer of Music at the University of South Carolina Aiken, where he directs the USCA Jazz Ensemble and teaches applied low brass. A versatile performer and educator, he maintains an active career as a freelance musician, performing with symphony orchestras, chamber ensembles, and jazz and rock bands. Description: Rock and Roll and Society: 1960s Psychedelia. We focus on the end of the decade and the music that grew out of the mind-expanding psychedelic movement on both sides of the Atlantic. We will cover music meant to enhance a drug experience, music meant to simulate a drug experience, and bands including the Beatles, the Beach Boys, Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Pink Floyd, The Doors…
