Instructor: Dr. Scott Weiss is the Music Director and Conductor of the Aiken Symphony as well as the Sarah Bolick Smith Distinguished Professor of Music in the School of Music at the University of South Carolina Columbia. His 35-year conducting career has included performances with major professionals all over the world. Dr. Weiss holds degrees from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and the School of Music at the University of Illinois. Description: Each session will be devoted to a different topic related to upcoming music in the Aiken Symphony's 2023-24 season. Those topics will be: English orchestral music, the French Impressionists, the music of Gustav Mahler, and Beethoven's overtures. These sessions will go beyond and be independent of the popular Illuminations talks that Maestro Weiss does prior to each Aiken Symphony Masterworks concert.
