Instructor: Dr. Russ Beckmeyer received his PhD from the University of Missouri. Dr. Beckmeyer has more than 50 years of applied computer technology experience: micro-computers, super-computers, networks, software, and computer security. After an extensive career at the Savannah River Site, he spent the last 5 years of his professional career as an engineering director for two different small nuclear reactors. Dr. Beckmeyer has been with the Center’s Tech Section since 2018 and was named the 2021 Volunteer of the Year for the Tech Section. Description: This course introduces participants to the capabilities of digital networks. Participants will gain a basic knowledge of various digital networks used to connect phones, computers, home automation, and home security. This includes network data limits and availability in this area. This lecture-based course with limited hands-on activity will acquaint participants with a broad overview of network digital options.
