About This Activity

Instructor: Dr. Andy Dyer is a retired biology professor at USC Aiken. He has published two general science books: one on pesticide resistance and agriculture (Chasing the Red Queen, 2014) and the second on the microbiome (Eaters Digest, 2022). His interest in life-history patterns led him to study cemeteries, death certificates and old documents to better understand the people, places and things in Aiken County over the past 200 years. Description: The Microbiome is now the center of attention in terms of managing human health. Numerous “modern diseases” are being linked to imbalances in the microbiome. What is the microbiome? How does it affect our health? How does this affect what we think about food and our diet? We will discuss the basic question “What is nutrition?” to help us understand the role of the microbiome.
