"Local performing artists teach hip hop dance. The program raises physical and social-emotional health levels for elementary school youth and inspires participants to actively express their identity, challenges, triumphs, and culture. Participants work with local professional dancers to learn techniques, skills and the history of Hip Hop Dance. In each class, dance games are played, and a specific technique is learned along with choreography, building towards group and solo dances. Goals: * Each student has one solo or group dance prepared for performance by the end of the residency. * Focus on performance techniques and confidence building across multiple forms of hip hop dance, sessions include: dance games, acquisition of techniques, choreography, solo dance, group dance, dance battles, watching dance performances, history of hip hop dance from breakdancing in the Bronx to Turf Dancing in the Bay Area as a recent form of hip hop dance originating here. "
