About This Activity

Join us for a fun and engaging experience as we travel the Spanish Speaking culture of Spain and Peru (week 1), Mexico and Panama (week 2), Colombia and Ecuador (week 3) through hands-on activities: Music, arts and crafts, science, animals, food and more from two different Spanish speaking countries each week. The students will start the day with an interactive, comprehensible and engaging Spanish lesson. They will be exposed through play to vocabulary and expressions that are useful and focused on communication. Arts and Crafts: Each student will be given a t-shirt each week. We will tie dye our camp t-shirts with all sorts of techniques and designs to celebrate summer. We will have an interactive art class with a local artist who will teach us how to draw “capybaras and condors”, “alebrijes” or mystical/magical animals from Mexico out of clay, and more. We are also going to make individual unicorn “piñatas” and “molas” from Panama. Also, face painting will be available. STEM activities: Did you know that a single potato can power a small light bulb? That’s right, your favorite food is a mini-battery. Campers will be proud to make their own electric circuit and take it home! Food: Did you know that Peru has more than 4,000 types of potatoes? Come hungry because we will make Papa a la huancaína, a delicious Peruvian dish with them. We will also make tacos and chocolate skulls from México and arepas con queso from Colombia. Music and Instruments: We are going to create homemade instruments and will explore the science of sound behind them. We’ll have an online interactive salsa and vallenato class with a native professional dancer from Colombia.
