About This Activity
In this class, young artists will explore the fundamentals of soft pastels through the observation and drawing of familiar objects such as fruits and vegetables. Students will begin by learning how to control the medium, experiment with color, and understand how simple shapes can become three-dimensional forms. As the program progresses, they will study light, shadow, color, texture, and composition while working with different fruits and objects. The class will introduce students to still life, one of the longest-standing traditions in visual art. Through this genre, students will learn that everyday objects can become a way to communicate emotions, ideas, memories, and stories. By the end of the program, each student will create an original still-life composition that reflects their own imagination and artistic choices. The emphasis of the class is not on creating identical paintings, but on giving each child the technical tools and creative freedom to tell their own visual story.
