Beginning Sculpture Class w/Brianna Rigdon Week 1 – Building with Basic Shapes Students will explore form by constructing sculptures using only basic shapes—no fine details yet. The goal is to create three small sculptures, then choose a favorite to continue developing throughout the course. Week 2 – Refinement & Hollowing (a.k.a. Horror Week!) This week, students will hollow out their sculptures to prepare them for firing, then carefully reassemble the pieces. Once reconstructed, they’ll add fine details and texture to bring their sculptures to life. Week 3 – Developing Secondary Forms Students will refine their chosen sculpture, building upon the foundation of basic shapes to define secondary forms and structure. They’ll begin shaping the piece to better resemble their intended subject while maintaining strong overall form. Week 4 – Glazing & Finishing Touches (This class will be held after pieces have been fired. So you will set the date in the class) In the final week, students will learn glazing and painting techniques to complete their finished sculpture, ready for firing and display.
