In this imaginative, hands-on course, students will explore the natural world through the wildly creative lens of an insect circus—where real and invented bugs take center stage! Together, we’ll study insects up close and learn to see the world through their eyes, using classic art concepts such as color, line, and shape to spark new ways of observing and creating. Students will design their own “insect collections” using recyclable materials, experimenting with how different lines suggest movement, how shapes can form unexpected creatures, and how bold colors bring these tiny performers to life. Then, under our ringleader Ms. Alexa, we’ll transform our discoveries into a full circus environment—complete with a handmade big-top and unique roles for every insect acrobat, from trapeze flyers and tightrope walkers to jugglers and unicyclists. Come ready to imagine, invent, and build as we run away with our creativity into a three-ring insect extravaganza!
