About This Activity

Join us for this one-day workshop consisting of two one-hour sessions. Through visual art, photography, and poetry, 4th and 5th graders are invited to explore identity and storytelling in this dynamic workshop series led by high school artists from the Evan Garrett Young Teaching Artist Collective. Sessions Included: Visualizing the Invisible: Multimedia Art Teaching Artist: Kira Kampschmidt This workshop explores the idea that what makes each person unique isn’t always something you can see. We’ll think about things like feelings, personality, and imagination—and how they are different for everyone. Through art, we’ll experiment with color, texture, and shape to show these “invisible” parts of ourselves in creative and meaningful ways. More Than Meets the Eye: Poetry Teaching Artist: Nandana Nair In this workshop, students will explore the idea that what we see on the outside isn’t always the whole story. Through fun, thought-provoking activities, we’ll look at the difference between appearances and what’s really going on underneath. Students will be invited to notice, imagine, and reflect in new ways as they learn to “look beyond the surface.” The workshop will culminate in each student creating their own original poem inspired by what they’ve discovered.
