Studies show that the average person who attends an art exhibit spends less than 30 seconds looking at each piece. Most people don't know how to look at art and comment on art. How would you like to learn to talk comfortably about art? Would the study of art history inspire art projects you might undertake? The purpose of this class is to provide you with a framework for an understanding of art that would enable you to express what you think about art using valid expressions. We will study some of the most well-known art and what makes “good” art.
We will be using the "Annotated Mona Lisa" as our reference text. These books are readily available in used book stores. Below is a list of sites online where they may be purchased. The purchase of the reference is not required, but we will be reading a section of the book in participation for class each week. In order to keep up with the discussion, it is desired that students read the assigned pages. Amazon Link
