Studies show that most people spend less than 30 seconds looking at an artwork—often because they aren’t sure how to observe or talk about what they see. This class introduces an easy, approachable framework for understanding art so you can discuss it with confidence. Together, we’ll explore well‑known artworks, examine what makes “good” art, and practice expressing our own thoughts using clear, meaningful language. You’ll also see how learning about art history can inspire your own creative projects.
We will be using the "Annotated Mona Lisa" as our reference text. These books are readily available in used book stores. Below is a list of sites online where they may be purchased. The purchase of the reference is not required, but we will be reading a section of the book in participation for class each week. In order to keep up with the discussion, it is desired that students read the assigned pages. Amazon Link
