About This Activity

Description

Grades: 2nd-5th. Students will learn the basics of crochet by making their very own Yarn Buddy! We’ll cover how to chain, single crochet, and assemble two soft squares into a plush toy with twisty limbs and a fun face. A creative, hands-on intro to fiber arts! Instructor: Katherine Williams. 8 classes. No class 11/4.Crochet Photo

Focus of each week:

Week 1 – Learn to hold yarn and hook, make a slip knot, and practice chaining

Week 2 – Learn single crochet and begin first square

Week 3 – Finish square one, begin square two

Week 4 – Make spiraled arms and legs

Week 5 – Decorate the face (buttons, felt, yarn, etc.) before sewing

Week 6 – Stitch and stuff the plushie

Week 7 – Finish projects, introduce buddies, play yarn-themed game

Week 8 (Optional) – Bonus craft (Pom-Pom) and wrap-up celebration
