Grades: 1st-3rd. Dancers will learn lively dances from Europe, Asia, Central and South America, as well as from the American South in this spirited class. You will learn safe and creative ways to warm up, and fun ways of working with duet partners, small groups and large circle dances. Bachata, Texas Two-Step, Cotton-eyed Joe, Hula, and the Tarantella are some of the styles you will learn. A wide range of music, dance games, and exciting props enrich our dance learning. Have fun and stretch your imagination with dance friends. No special shoes are required, but socks that can be removed are a help. Ms. Sears, is a polished educator with a professional dance and somatics career, a former dance professor, and adjudicator for the MYAF. 6 classes.
Meet our Instructor:
Ms. Christina-Marie Sears, the founder of Maple Street Studios, is an award-winning dance educator, MFA, who has taught at Universities and dance studios in our region and across the US. Ms. Christina won the 2016 Dance Educator of the Year, with Michigan Youth Arts Festival and Meemic Foundation making the award; Michigan Dance Council was the nominator.
