Grades 1st-2nd. Dive into a world of creativity! Students will transform a simple shoebox into their own imaginative underwater scene. Using clay, pipe cleaners, paint, and recycled materials, they’ll bring their creations to life with colorful coral reefs, curious fish, mermaids, and mysterious sea creatures. Along the way, students will explore ocean ecosystems and discover how artists draw inspiration from the beauty of nature.
By the end of the class, students will be able to:
- Explore ocean ecosystems and marine life through art and discussion.
- Create an original underwater scene using a variety of 2D and 3D materials.
- Experiment with clay, paint, recycled materials, and mixed-media techniques.
- Make creative choices about subject matter, colors, materials, and composition.
- Develop skills in planning, building, revising, and expanding an artwork.
- Discover how artists use nature as inspiration for their work.
- Express their own ideas and imagination through an open-ended art project.
Online registration closes at 12 noon two days before the class begins. To register after online registration has closed (depending on class availability), please call 734-994-2300 ext. 0.
