About This Activity

Description

Many older adults experience concerns about falling and restricting their activities. A MATTER OF BALANCE is an award-winning, evidence based program proven to reduce fear of falls and increase activity levels, with emphasis on learning practical strategies to lower fall risk factors.

This is NOT an exercise class but rather a unique opportunity for participants to learn evidence-based exercises to improve balance and stamina. Participants will also enjoy group discussions, workbook activities, exercises and a presentation from a Guest Professional on week seven who will provide important safety tips and information on how to safely get up from a fall.
Participants meet once per week for two hours, for all 8 consecutive weeks. All materials will be provided. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and supportive shoes. (no sandals, open toes, high heels, or boots) Membership fee: Free and Non Membership: $5

Registration is required and is on a first come, first-serve basis. Payment is due at the time of registration. If a class is full, you may choose to be placed on a wait list. Pro-rated credits are not provided for late registrations or missed classes. Recreation staff do not call or email with reminders of upcoming activities. You may view schedules in your online account by clicking on View Family Members Schedule.REFUNDS/TRANSFERS - The Antioch Recreation Department is happy to review activity transfer or refund requests. Customers may request a transfer or refund IN WRITING NO LATER THAN 5 business days prior to the first day of class. Refund/Transfer Forms are available at the front desk or emails may be sent to seniors@antiochca.gov with the participant name(s), class information, and reason. All refunds are subject to a $10.00 service charge per activity/class, unless the Recreation Department cancels the class. You will receive confirmation of your transfer/refund request. Refund policies may be different for swim lessons.CANCELLATIONS - The City has the right to cancel classes when enrollments have not reached their minimum. Please register early and help us to prevent class cancellations. We don’t like to cancel classes, but sometimes it is necessary before the first meeting when enrollments are low. Your registration might be the one that enables the class to be held.RETURNED CHECKS/DISPUTED CHARGE FEE - The City of Antioch charges $51.00 for any returned or rejected payments. If the Recreation Department is notified that payments have not cleared, a returned item fee will be added to your account.
