Northern California is home to one of the best-kept wilderness secrets in the United States: The Trinity Alps. Just three hours from Ashland, but a world away, the Trinity Alps is home to granite peaks, deep glacier-carves valleys, surreal meadows, and high mountain lakes. It is a majestic scene in which to launch out on a backpacking adventure! This 10-day expedition unfolds in two chapter and will challenge you with its terrain, reward you with its pristine beauty, and inspire the expedition members long after the trip. We will have time to get deep into this gem of nature, swim in the streams, sit in circle, and develop connections with self, others, and the natural world. Participants will learn how to pack a backpack, read maps, understand navigation, backcountry cooking, food storage, and water filtration. By the time this trip is complete, everyone is well versed in wilderness protocol. Confidence is built. In most native cultures, there is a time in a youth’s development where they are sent out into the wilderness to find themselves - to listen. This time is solo time and is one of the most powerful and underused tools in modern time. During this trip, there will be a day set aside for this time of reflection, from sun-up, to sun-down. The second chapter brings up to the coast of California where we trade our backpacks for wetsuits and surfboards as we learn to ride the waves of life in a different way.
