About This Activity

Note: This course is open to students who have previously completed the Introduction to Blacksmithing class. This class use traditional hand hammered blacksmithing techniques over a coal burning forge. Each week students will choose to forge either a tool or a figurine. The figures projects includes: cats, mice, dogs, owls, horses, rams, dragons, and wizards. Initial tool projects include a fire rake, round punch, slot punch, hammer eye drift, and hammer. Additional tool projects for repeat students include forging the figurine tools, rivet making tools, rounding hammer, and tongs. Materials will be discussed in the first class; fuel for the student’s forge as well as steel for planned projects are provided by the studio. About the Instructor: Garrett lives in Decatur and is a member of ABANA and the Alex Bealer Blacksmith Association of Georgia. He enjoys blacksmithing, dry stone masonry, and building log cabins.
