About This Activity
Come to the class you really love after school, Art! Drawing and painting of animals, landscape, plants from the Green House and abstraction will be explored! Week 1- Explore drawing your favorite animal from reference photos and realistic toys. Week 2- Watch tree demonstration and draw your own! Week 3- Watch a demonstration on hand studies. Try several quicker studies then draw a longer drawing looking at your own hand. Week 4-Go to the Callanwolde Garden and pick a flower and draw it in full color! Week 5- Draw and watercolor an underwater scene including the realistic sharks and whale toy references. Week 6- Using powder pastels, create an abstract image on black thick drawing paper. Limit the color palette and focus on mark making techniques Week 7- Walk around and find several unique color changing leaves. Create a watercolor of falling leaves. Week 8-Create an acrylic painting of a tree choosing to work from a reference of one of the many tree species on Callanwolde’s beautiful campus. Week 9 and 10-Create your own character based of a person or animal shape. Fine tune your character with details, such as expressions in face and body language, pattern, texture and color. By the end of this class your child will feel more confident in approaching a variety of subject matter in drawing and painting. Realism, planning a drawing or painting, choosing colors, and applying techniques to surfaces will all be improved.
