NOTE: Class skips March 3. This winter we will channel our early spring by weaving lace, specifically, Atwater Bronson lace named after Mary Meigs Atwater. Atwater was both a suffragette and a significant force in the revival of American handweaving in the early through mid 1900’s. Atwater Bronson lace is a unit weave that can be designed using a profile draft. Unlike some other laces, patterns can repeat without any additional shenanigans. We’ll have up to 6 block designs on our 8 shaft looms and will explore what happens when those long lace floats move to create lace patterns. We’ll extend our understanding of profile drafting and block substitution. Whether a singular color traditional approach is taken or color interactions are explored, Atwater Bronson lace will be a good precursor to spring. Students who have some prior weaving experiences are welcome in this class. Brand new weavers are encouraged to take the Weaving Introduction Workshop or Beginners Plus! Class. Supplies available include 8/2, 10/2, 20/2 and some 8/4 cotton and are included in the registration fee.
