Ages 3-5 (2 year old permitted with caregiver present in the room.) In this class, children enjoy an engaging music curriculum taught by Ms. Debra Cole, an experienced music educator, flutist, and performer. Activities in Ms. Debra’s class include singing, lots of dancing, playing instruments, and listening to music and stories. The broader goals include music fundamentals, language development, early literacy, school readiness, teamwork, learning to share, culture, imagination, and experiencing the happiness that music gives us. Musical styles include American folk songs as well as classical, jazz, Motown, rock, Latin, and traditional children’s music. She uses ideas formulated from her education and experience, in addition to the Learning Groove curriculum. About the Instructor: Debra has undergraduate degrees in music and history, along with a master’s degree in educational leadership. Ms. Debra was a public schoolteacher for 9 years. She taught preschool music for 5 years in Grant Park. She’s currently an instrumental assistant for the Decatur-Avondale Children’s choir. She’s an accomplished flutist, stand-up comedian, and a producer of local comedy and music shows. In addition, she’s the director of the music group, Mary Flannery’s Ghost that she formed 2015. It’s a trio with bass, guitar, and flute that has played in preschools such as Bright Horizons, Morningside Presbyterian, and the Suzuki schools. They’ve also performed at the Aurora Theatre, The Children’s Museum of Atlanta, and for the Young People’s Series at Spivey Hall. Furthermore, Ms. Debra is a big fan of the Callanwolde Arts Center. Her daughter Julia has been participating in dance and arts classes for the past 8 years. I
