About This Activity

Get ready to explore the exciting world of ceramics! If you're between the ages of 5 and 10 and ready for a hands-on adventure, join the Clay Explorers Jr. crew! Guided by an experienced instructor over four fun-filled Saturdays, we'll dive deep into different ceramic techniques, turning raw, soft clay into four incredible, finished projects you get to keep. Your Expedition Checklist (What You'll Create): Adventure Stop 1: Slab Bowls: Hidden Designs-It’s what’s on the inside that counts! After draping their clay slabs over molds, our artists are "inking" the interiors with custom cut-out designs. By pressing shapes directly into the clay, they’re creating beautiful, recessed patterns that will pop once the glaze hits. Adventure Stop 2: Coil Critters: Life in a Shell-We’re "rolling" with it! By spiraling long clay snakes, our young artists are building sturdy, swirling shells for their favorite slow-moving friends. Whether it's a garden snail or a cozy hermit crab, these critters show off just how much personality you can pack into a perfectly coiled home. Adventure Stop 3: Pinch Pots: Small Pots, Big Ideas-It all starts with a thumb and a squeeze! Our potters are mastering the ancient art of the pinch pot, transforming simple spheres into organic vessels. Whether they’re crafting a tiny planter for a succulent or a custom holder for their lucky coins, it’s all about the "feel" of the clay. Adventure Stop 4: Funny Face Planters: Personality Included- By the end of the course, each student will have completed one-of-a-kind ceramic pieces, gaining confidence in their hand building skills and a deeper appreciation for working with clay. This class provides a supportive and inspiring environment where young artists can learn, play, and explore with clay!
