About This Activity

"Get ready to explore the exciting world of ceramics! If you're between the ages of 8 and 16 and ready for a hands-on adventure, join the Clay Explorers crew! Guided by an experienced instructor over four fun-filled Saturdays, we'll dive deep into different ceramic techniques, turning raw, soft clay into four incredible, finished projects you get to keep. Your Expedition Checklist (What You'll Create): Adventure Stop 1: The Smooth Start (Slip-Cast Tumblers) We're jumping right into advanced techniques! You'll get hands-on with liquid clay (slip) to create a perfectly smooth, professional-grade Tumbler using our special molds. Learn the secret of ceramic casting on day one! Adventure Stop 2: Home for the Birds (Slab-Built Birdhouse) Master the classic slab-building technique! You'll design, cut, and assemble clay slabs to construct a functional and decorative Birdhouse—perfect for your backyard or garden. Adventure Stop 3: Sounds of the Sea (Fish Wind Chimes) Learn how to create thin, intricate shapes! We’ll sculpt decorative Fish and other fun elements to assemble into a beautiful, clinking Wind Chime to hang outdoors. Adventure Stop 4: Stepping Up! (Garden Stepping Stones) For our final project, you'll press, carve, and decorate a large clay slab to create a personalized, weatherproof Stepping Stone for your garden, path, or patio. We'll finish up by adding dazzling glazes to all four projects! By the end of the course, each student will have completed one-of-a-kind ceramic pieces, gaining confidence in their hand building skills and a deeper appreciation for working with clay. This class provides a supportive and inspiring environment where young artists can learn, play, and explore the limitless possibilities of ceramics. Grab your spot on the team! All clay, tools, glazes, and firing costs are included. Keep in mind that clay is messy when selecting your outfit of the day!"
