How can you venture 20,000 leagues under the sea, fly to Neverland and step through a looking-glass all without ever leaving Austin? By attending a camp focused on reading of course! Join your friends this summer on an adventure at Regents. Together we will explore different genres and discuss reading preferences. We will have daily activities that will make books come alive. By the end of the week, your child will have a personally curated list of books to keep their adventures going all summer! Going deeper into the week: This camp is designed to cultivate a love of reading and is not focused on language therapy. Each day we will explore literary genres and dive into a book to discuss what makes the work great literature! Through our discussion we will dissect the work to understand the literary components that help us to get carried away in the story. We will also discover how to keep a reading journal and why we might want to have one in the future! The greatest outcome of the week is to inspire all readers, from those who haven't yet found a book they are interested in (reluctant readers), all the way to the child who loves to read and is searching for new books to explore! Students should expect to receive a book that we'll read over the course of the week along with a reading journal and supplies for their journal. Alaina Hanson is the fifth grade Literature teacher. She has a passion to help students find books they can’t put down, and introduce them to new authors and genres to expand their reading life.
