One of the most valuable parts of the writing process is sharing work with fellow writers. I love reading the work of my loved ones and helping them to perfect their art, and the feedback I've received from them in turn has improved my writing immensely. In this summer camp, we will look at published stories to understand what makes each work compelling. Then, we will write our own short stories, which we will share with the group for discussion. The insights we receive from this, our first audience, will help us test what moves our readers as intended and will make us all more compelling writers. About your teacher Bethany Hampton: The first short story I remember writing was an assignment in third grade. I got carried away and wrote far more than required. I had fallen in love with the craft, and I decided I wanted to be an author. Since then, although I also developed a love for teaching during high school, I have always continued writing. I studied literature and writing in college, and I wrote several flash fiction pieces for a role playing game that was published a few years ago. I am currently in the middle of revisions for my first novel.
