About This Activity
Applying mathematical skills is highly valuable for deepening mathematical understanding and building mathematical confidence, but accomplishing this by forcing a student to do math drills over the summer might also be a good way to make that student resent math. This is where Star Wars Unlimited comes in. This trading card game allows players to use Jedi, Rebel Troopers, and spaceships from all of the Star Wars movies and TV shows to battle against their friends. Gameplay is fun AND it requires constant calculation. To make optimal plays, players must hold in their minds constantly evolving strings of arithmetic. In this camp, students will learn to play Star Wars Unlimited, we'll have brief lessons on strategy, and then we'll spend much of our time applying mathematical skills. In addition to being a great math exercise, playing Star Wars Unlimited is a great way to socially interact and make new friends. I hope you'll consider joining us!
