Description: Led by DewMore Baltimore Teaching Artist, Keyma Flight, this free, 6-week beginner-friendly poetry class invites youth ages 11–14 to find their voice and express themselves through words. Each week, students will build on their skills with creative writing exercises that explore rhyming, rhythm, and literacy in fun and engaging ways. This class provides a safe space for young writers to express themselves, connect with peers, and discover the power of their own voice. Students will use themes to inspire their writing and prepare for a student-led open mic during our end-of-session showcase, where participants will share their original work and celebrate their growth together. Supplies: Will be included onsite during class instruction. Format: This class will be an in-person class. Masks are recommended but not required. The max capacity for this class is 10 participants. Cost of class: This class is free! No payment necessary. End-of-Session Celebration: All participants will present their final projects at our celebration, Friday, May 22nd, at 6:00 PM.
