About This Activity

Spanish Honors Prep (Gilman, BMS, and RPCS Students) This summer, Gilman’s Upper School is offering a Spanish Intensive Honors Prep course designed for: 1. Students currently not enrolled in a Spanish honors course who have been identified as candidates for honors-level study by their current instructors. 2. Students currently enrolled in an honors Spanish course who could benefit from summer enrichment to be fully prepared for the next level of the honors program. This one-week course will be tailored specifically to the needs of the enrolled students. Through practice speaking in pairs and small groups, students will further develop both fluency and precision in their oral communication. Authentic oral and written texts - created by and for native Spanish speakers - will serve as a primary vehicle for improving listening and reading comprehension while offering avenues for cultural exploration. Additionally, peer collaboration on creative mini projects will provide students with an engaging and effective way to hone their Spanish skills in the summer. Coed, entering grades 9 - 12 Dates: August 12 - 16 Time: 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Fee: $375 Location: Upper School Spanish Classrooms (Lumen Center) Instructors: Dr. Karina Baptista (kbaptista@gilman.edu) and Matt Zealand (mzealand@gilman.edu), Gilman Upper School Spanish teachers. Matt Zealand is the Upper School Modern Languages Department Chair and teaches Spanish and French at Gilman. He holds a master’s degree in Spanish Linguistics from the University of California, Davis, and has 17 years of teaching experience.
