About This Activity
Description
We're sorry, but this program is over. The last meeting was Thursday, March 28, 2024.
As the sun sets, the male woodcock makes his way to the edge of a field to prepare for his extraordinary courtship performance. Normally timid and elusive, the woodcock is readily observed during the early spring breeding season when he leaves the cover of the forest to attract a mate. We will spend the first part of the evening discovering how amazing this bird is, then hike to view the courtship flights of the male.
Meet at the Plum Creek Greenway Trail Equestrian Parking Lot on Goodenow Road. Be sure to dress for the weather as we will stand in place for a bit to listen for the calls and look for woodcocks.
The hike will be approximately 1 mile to 2 miles on natural surface trails over uneven terrain.
Ages 7 or older.
