About This Activity

Description

Welcome to the Fall 2025 Buddy Meetups Program—a free, in-person, social development program for neurodiverse K-12 students, supported by Belmont Parks and Recreation and BRSSD Opening Doors PTA.

This season includes four meetups all led by volunteer teen mentors and supported by a certified BCBA and two PEERS providers. The program promotes confidence, communication, and meaningful peer connections through natural social interactions.
Parent/guardians are expected to stay onsite at all four meetups and provide support as needed:
  • Oct. 5 from 11:15am-12:15pm at Hillsdale Food Court
  • Oct. 26 from 2-3pm at the Twin Pines Senior and Community Center
  • Nov. 16 from 2-3pm at the Twin Pines Senior and Community Center
  • Dec. 11 from 5-6pm at Belmont Fire Station 14 (Sensory Santa event)

Is My Child a Fit?

We take a "try it first" approach with all participants who are accepted into the program. However, please note participants may be asked to leave the program if their safety and/or the safety of others is at risk.

Participants who may be a good fit:

  • Are partially or fully mainstreamed in school
  • Need social or sensory support and are in self-contained classrooms
  • Have limited verbal skills or use a communication device at school
  • Enjoy being in large groups of new peers
  • May need some breaks from the group but do well with several transitions
Participants who may not be a good fit:
  • Are not able to be in or do not want to be in larger groups
  • Self-injure
  • Have aggressive behaviors with adults or peers
  • Have impulse control challenges that put their safety and/or others at risk
