About This Activity
Description
This is a one-week ballet and contemporary dance intensive for intermediate and advanced dancers designed to challenge and expand the technical skills, artistry, and performance abilities of the participants.
The program will include:
Ballet Training:
- Daily Technique Classes: Emphasis on refining classical ballet technique, focusing on building strength, flexibility, alignment, and proper use of the body in positions in plié, relevé, and arabesque.
- Adagio and Allegro Combinations: Work on fluidity and control in adagio (slow) movements, as well as precision, speed, and stamina in allegro (fast) combinations.
- Center Work and Across the Floor: Develop balance, coordination, and spatial awareness through both stationary center exercises and traveling combinations across the floor.
- Contemporary Technique: Exploration of different contemporary styles, such as modern, release technique, and floorwork, while incorporating elements from ballet and other forms.
- Choreography: Participants will learn original contemporary choreography, focusing on dynamics, musicality, and storytelling through movement.
- Performance Quality: Emphasis on stage presence and performing with intention, ensuring dancers can express themselves and connect with an audience.
- Strength and Flexibility Sessions: Targeted exercises to enhance overall body conditioning, focusing on core strength, joint stability, and muscle endurance.
- Injury Prevention: Education on proper body mechanics, warm-up and cool-down routines, and how to take care of the dancer’s body to avoid injury.
