Course Description Road Cycling: Brush up on your road cycling skills or learn the basics from our experienced and knowledgeable instructors. We'll start by addressing proper bike fit and making any necessary adjustments to your bike. Next, we'll demonstrate riding techniques, including proper body position, shifting, braking, efficient hill climbing and safe descending. We'll also go over important communication skills and how to read the road for safety. Then it's off for a ride to practice what we've learned. This course is great for people new to riding or looking for a refresher, and is an opportunity to learn in an inclusive environment and meet other beginning riders. Please bring your helmet and proper riding apparel. Don't have a bike or helmet? We'll provide bikes and helmets at no additional charge. No rider will be left behind! Mountain Biking: Experience the thrill of mountain biking with our enthusiastic, knowledgeable instructors! After bike fitting and adjustments we’ll demonstrate riding techniques, including body and pedal position, shifting, braking, climbing, descending, and navigating minor obstacles on the trail. We’ll also go over important communication skills and mountain biking trail etiquette with the aim of keeping multi-use trails open and safe for everyone. And finally, we’ll practice all these new skills on great trail rides! Don’t have a bike? We’ll provide mountain bikes for students at no additional charge. No rider will be left behind! Program Outcomes: • Learn how to mount and dismount a mountain bike both in stationary and moving environments • Learn the proper techniques of shifting, braking, hill climbing/descending, and clearing minor obstacles • Learn proper Trail etiquette (LNT) and risk management • Find local areas where you can begin to build your skills as a mountain biker. • Learn how to balance and maneuver a road bike • Learn the proper technique for shifting, braking, and hill descending and climbing • Learn road
