Discover the beauty of intentional imperfection in this immersive two-session ceramic workshop taught by Jason Tobkin. Across two creative hands-on days, January 3rd and 17th from 6 PM to 9 PM, you will design and finish your own uniquely textured vase, combining wheel throwing, slab construction, and expressive glaze work to create a truly one-of-a-kind piece. Session One, January 3rd: Form and Texture In the first session, you will throw the base form of your vase on the wheel and craft a cracked-surface slab to wrap or incorporate into your piece. We will explore how moisture levels, thickness, and handling affect crack patterns, giving you control over organic, sculptural textures. Session Two, January 17th: Glaze and Finish After your vase has been bisque-fired, return for a deep dive into glaze techniques specifically chosen to complement and enhance textured surfaces. You'll learn how to layer, wash, accent, and highlight your crackle patterns while experimenting with color, contrast, and surface movement. By the end of the workshop, you will leave with a finished textured vase that showcases both craftsmanship and creativity an expressive piece with a surface that tells a story. Any class payments above the suggested class fee (Take a Class/Give a Class, Help a Neighbor, Sponsor Materials) are tax deductible and will be acknowledged via email for tax purposes.
