About This Activity

In this hands-on art workshop taught by Amy Gitchell, students transform traditional paper lanterns into colorful works of art using decoupage—a decorative technique in which paper cutouts are layered, adhered to a surface, and sealed for a smooth, finished look. Students personalize pre-made lanterns with tissue paper, patterned napkins, and decorative papers, building bold patterns and vibrant designs as they learn this accessible technique. Ribbons, fabric, and playful embellishments add the finishing touches, making each lantern uniquely their own. By the end of class, every student takes home a completed, beautifully decorated lantern ready to light up a room or celebrate a special occasion. Any class payments above the suggested class fee (Take a Class/Give a Class, Help a Neighbor, Sponsor Materials) are tax deductible and will be acknowledged via email for tax purposes.
