YMCA Coaches provide an enjoyable and safe sporting experience for an assigned group of athletes while they learn confidence, individual and team games skills, sportsmanship and fair play.Tasks and Activities Include:-Completion of all required screening/training (see below)-Coaching organized basketball teams offered through the YMCA-Coaches will follow the YMCA curriculum and code of conduct for practices and games.-Communicating with parents of athletes as well as YMCA staff-Promote good sportsmanship among players, coaches, parents and guardians- Time Commitment of 1 hour per week for practice and 1 hour on Saturday for games. 1 hour per week of administrative duties as needed.
Training:All youth sports coaches will be required to complete a national SSN background check*, online child abuse prevention and athlete protection trianing, CPR, and a YMCA coach training prior to the start of the season. Approx. 5 hours of training total.
*Volunteer Coaches 16-17 years of age will need guardian permission and will not be subject to a background check screening. Coaches under 18 will be recognized as assistant coaches.

We hold all volunteers regardless of service project, to the highest possible standards. We require volunteers that are working with youth to be screened regularly and sign a code of conduct. All volunteers will be monitored when interacting with program participants. We rake any inappropriate interactions between program participants and with volunteers very seriously and will fully cooperate with authorities in any case of abuse.
