The purpose of Girl with Grit Skill Building Workshop is to quickly saturate basic life skills that are needed for independent living. Classes have been called potentially lifesaving and life-changing by law enforcement and behavioral scientists. Sessions cover anything from tools to sewing to carpentry to cooking all with our special blend of creativity and craftsmanship.
Each session teaches essentials such as changing a flat tire, road safety, engine maintenance, introduction to tools and hardware, and general home care, plumbing, and repair.
Class sessions offered on Fridays (from 5pm-7pm) AND Sundays (from 1pm-3pm). Below is a quick look at class descriptions:
First Week (Feb. 23 | Fri.): Trusty ToolsGirls will learn about tools and build their very own birdhouse. They will leave with a basic understanding of all hand and power tools.
Second Week (Mar. 1 | Fri.): Try-a-TradeGirls will learn various elements of construction. The goal of this class is to build a lamp and learn about the skilled trades in a fun, interactive way.
Third Week (Mar. 8 | Fri.): Financial Fast FactsIntroduces students to the importance of budgeting their finances. We will discuss priority expenditures and the importance of saving money. We will also cover the difference between utilizing cash and credit.
Fourth Week (Mar. 24 | Sun.): Drive & ThriveGirls will learn how to change a tire, jump a battery, roadside safety and vehicle maintenance.
Fifth Week (Apr. 5 | Fri.): Entrepreneur LabCreate your own business and develop a business plan. Learn about budgets, money planning and more!
Sixth Week (Apr. 19 | Fri.): Household Fix DIYGirls will learn basic household skills to help them achieve independence from culinary on the fly to hanging heavy curtains to patching a pair of jeans or a hole in the wall.
Week #7 (April 21 | Sun.)-Wild One (CPR Training)Focuses on survival in our most uninhabited areas - wilderness. We share tips in case of emergencies, what to pack and how to prepare if you are out enjoying outdoor recreation.
Week #8 (April 26 | Fri.)-First Response (CPR Training)Will cover how to handle some very simple and some very scary emergencies. Extinguish a fire, learn CPR, and firearm safety.
