For over 50 years, Hill House has run quality athletics programs for children in the Boston area. Soccer is the most popular sport in the world, and continues to be the most popular sport here at Hill House. Join us for another fun season of our 8U BOYS SOCCER LEAGUE! This league is open to children city-wide, welcoming players from all neighborhoods of Greater Boston.

Develop your soccer player’s skills through age and ability specified coaching. Players will learn both individual skills and team concepts during practice and weekly games on Saturday mornings. This program will introduce fun competitive games and embrace the valuable ups and downs of working towards a shared goal as part of a team. Players will be divided into balanced teams and staff or volunteer coaches will lead these teams through a regular season schedule of games that ends with a fun and competitive playoff tournament to find our champion! Coaching will ensure that fun, enjoyment, and teamwork are emphasized just as much as learning soccer skills and drills.

Season Structure:
  • 60 minute sessions.
  • Participants will practice at 5:00pm on Wednesdays and play games on Saturdays at 10:30am.
  • Teams are created and led by Hill House staff and parent/local volunteers.
  • We will have as many teams of 8-12 players as we can field, but will most likely have 4-6 teams based on prior season enrollment.
  • Teams will be created after the first 1-2 sessions which will run as friendly skill-based clinics designed to help us sort all players into even teams to the best of our ability.
  • The season will consist of a regular season schedule of games before ending with a competitive tournament to find our champion!
  • Playoffs may feature double-headers that start earlier or end later based on team seeding.
  • Makeup games and playoff games may be scheduled during weekday practices.
  • We will do our best to makeup cancelled games, but will not makeup cancelled practices.
  • As long as the weather permits, our last session will be a fun all-star style celebration where we come together as a league again and play outside our season long teams.
  • Overall league structure may shift in rare circumstances to prioritize the best possible experience for players, if we encounter unanticipated enrolment numbers.

Equipment:
  • Players will all receive team jerseys based on American Major League Soccer teams.
  • Players should wear shin guards and cleats for practice and games.
  • Our jerseys are Youth Medium for this league (please leave a note in the registration page if you require a larger size).

Game Format:
  • All games will be 7-on-7, with 8-12 players per roster.
  • There will be two 20 minute halves with a 2 minute half time.
  • Every player will play at least half of every game.
  • Fields will be approximately 180x120ft.
  • Referee decisions will be final.

Notes on Awards:Like all Hill House programs this league puts fun first, but it is still competitive. We believe this format helps invest and excite players, while also teaching them what it means to be part of a team. As a result this league does not feature participation trophies, and instead rewards the league champion team and a few individual players across the league with trophies. We use these trophies to celebrate achievement, but more importantly to inspire all the players in the league to keep practicing and working towards the fun goals their peers have reached. We highlight players with great work ethic, sportsmanship, and commitment to improve, because we want to motivate all our players to model those traits and become the best they can be.
Team Assignments:*Please note: regarding friend requests, this is a competitive league and Hill House will have final say regarding team placements. All teammate applications are not official, though we will do what we can to accommodate on a case-by-case basis. Skill balance between teams will come first.*
Please read the notes on this page carefully, and email jking@hillhouseboston.org if you have any questions before the season starts, or if you register less than a week before the program begins.
