Teachers: Mr. Fountain Grades: 5-7 Price: TBD Description: "Opera: Big Voices, Big Drama, Big Feelings" is a seminar that introduces students to opera as a dynamic art form that combines music, theater, and storytelling. Students explore how voice, orchestra, and staging convey character and drama, with particular attention to arias—extended musical moments that dwell on a single emotion or inner conflict. In contrast to today’s fast-paced, scrolling-based media culture, the seminar invites students to slow down and practice sustained listening, discovering how meaning emerges from music. Through guided listening, opera video excerpts, and discussion, students learn to follow operatic narratives and understand why opera’s emotional power remains relevant today. Students in this project will have a different pick up time on their field trip day.
