Class Description: Exploring the United States - A Journey of Discovery Welcome to an exciting journey through the United States! Each week, we will visit a different region and explore its geography, weather, culture, history, and natural and economic resources. Throughout the semester, students will develop their map skills and learn facts such as state capitals and symbols. Classes will include mapwork, books and videos to explore the different regions, games, and hands-on activities. At the beginning of the semester, each student will choose a state to represent, doing research and creating a project poster that highlights key aspects of the state of choice. Students will present their posters on the last day of class, sharing interesting facts and insights about their chosen state. To make the experience even more fun, each student may also bring in a traditional food or snack from their state, allowing the class to taste and explore the unique culinary offerings of that region. *Note for 3rd Grade Parents: Either class is an option. The 3rd-5th grade class will include more advanced and independent reading/writing activities. Teacher Bio: I’m Jackie. I have been married for 16 years and am a mom of 3. I graduated from Rutgers University with my Masters in Education, with dual certifications in Elementary and Special Education. Before having children, my husband and I decided we wanted to homeschool and we have been blessed to be able to do so from the beginning. Now that I am out of the “diapers and naps” stage of life, I feel ready to get back to my passion for teaching in a classroom setting. In my spare time, you can find me on the sidelines rooting for my kids at sports events, walking my dog, and going to country concerts and theme parks.
