2nd-3rd Grade Writing and Language Arts Class with Miss Melissa 12 weeks from Aug. 20th -Nov. 5th. Second and Third Grade This class is offered semester by semester, however, the Spring semester will be building on the concepts learned in the fall. While both semesters are separate, you can take one and not the other, please consider the skill progression to make sure this is a good fit. This class will meet once a week for 1 hour. There will not be any homework assigned each week, however, we will have a spelling and vocabulary test each week. So they will need to study for that. ***My writing and language arts classes are designed to build on each other. 2nd/3rd grade will help prepare them for next class (4th/5th). In the Fall we will work towards mastering: *Write a sequence of events, transitions, and ending. *Write introduction, facts, transitions, and conclusion. *Use context clues, word relationships, and background knowledge to find the meaning of unknown words. *Second Grade level Spelling & Vocabulary Words *Plurals -y to -ies, Pronouns, Plural possessives, Interjections. *Apostrophes to form contractions, Commas in a series. In the Spring we will work towards mastering: *Writiting events, descriptions, dialogue, transitional words or phrases, and ending. *Writing events, descriptions, dialogue, transitional words or phrases, and ending. *Third Grade level Spelling & Vocabulary Words *Regular and irregular verb tenses. *Regular and frequently occurring irregular plural nouns. *Past tense of frequently occurring irregular verbs tenses *Irregular plural nouns. *Progressive & perfect verb tenses. *Simple modifiers, Prepositions and prepositional phrases. *Compound sentences, Quotation marks with dialogue & direct quotations, Commas with direct address.
