Kinder-1st Writing and Language Arts Class with Miss Melissa 12 weeks from Aug. 20th -Nov. 5th. Kindergarten and First Grade This class is offerend semester by semester, however, the Spring semester will be building on the concepts learned in the fall. While both semesters are separate, you can take one and not the other, please consider the skill progression to make sure this is a good fit. This class will meet once a week for 1 hour. There will not be any homework assigned each week, however, we will have a spelling and vocabulary test each week. So they will need to study for that. ***My writing and language arts classes are designed to build on each other. Kinder/1st will help prepare them for next class (2nd/3rd). In the Fall we will work towards mastering: *Chronological order of events *Drawing and writing about a topic *Recall information to answer a question about a single topic. *Kindergarten level Spelling and Vocabulary Words *Begin each sentence with a capital letter and use ending punctuation. *Capitalize the days of the week, the months of the year, and the pronoun I. *Form regular plural nouns orally by adding /s/ or /es/. *Use interrogatives to ask questions. In the Spring we will work towards mastering: *Write opinions about a topic or text with at least one supporting reason from a source and a sense of closure. *Write narratives that retell two or more appropriately sequenced events, including relevant details and a sense of closure. *First Grade level Spelling and Vocabulary Words *Capitalize proper nouns. *Form and use simple verb tenses for regular verbs by adding the affix -ed. *Form and use complete simple sentences. *Use possessives. *Use subject-verb agreement in simple sentences.
