About This Activity
This class is offered semester by semester, however, the Spring semester will be building on the concepts learned in the fall. While both semesters are separate, you can take one and not the other, please consider the skill progression to make sure this is a good fit. This class will meet once a week for 1 hour. There will not be any homework assigned each week, however, we will have a spelling and vocabulary test each week. So they will need to study for that. ***My writing and language arts classes are designed to build on each other. Please see lower level classes for skills that we are building on. In the Fall we will work towards mastering: *Write demonstrating an effective use of techniques such as descriptions and transitional words & phrases. *Write using multiple sources, elaboration, and organizational structure. *Context clues, figurative language, word relationships, reference materials, and background knowledge to determine the meaning of multiple-meaning, unknown words & phrases. *Use subject-verb agreement with clauses & phrases. *Complete sentences, recognizing & correcting inappropriate fragments and run-ons. *Conjunctions. *Fourth Grade level Spelling & Vocabulary Words Bio: Originally from Ohio and with a degree in Elem. Education from Ohio Univ., I've called Florida home for the past 18 years. My first ten years were spent teaching elem. school in Pinellas Cty. I am a wife to an adventure loving entrepreneur and mother to 2 spunky girls, 2 poodles and 3 cats. Our family is in our 4th year of homeschooling and our 3rd as members of HEAT. I'm a firm believer that we, as parents, are blessed to be our children's first teachers and that learning happens all day, every day. I'm excited to be jumping back into teaching here at HEAT to support other homeschooling families on this wonderful journey where God has called us.
