2nd/3rd Math with Ms. Hannah This class is offered semester by semester, with the Spring semester building on concepts learned in the Fall. While both semesters are separate and you can take one and not the other, please consider the skill progression to ensure the class is a good fit. This class will meet TWICE A WEEK for 1 hour. **My math classes are designed to be consecutive so each class will build onto the next for a smooth transition. 2nd/3rd Math will prepare them for the next class (4th/5th Math). In the Fall we will work toward mastering the following: 1. Understand place value in four-digit numbers. 2. Strengthen addition and subtraction skills and learn to think algebraically. 3. Measure objects, tell time, and find the perimeter of shapes. 4. Develop spatial reasoning by working with numbers and two/three-dimensional shapes. In the Spring we will work toward mastering the following: 5. Add and subtract larger numbers using standard methods. 6. Learn multiplication and division, how they relate to each other, and how they connect to the concept of area. 7. Build an understanding of fractions. 8. Explore geometric concepts like lines and the properties of quadrilaterals. MATERIALS NEEDED: • 1 SUBJECT NOTEBOOK (NOT A COMPOSITION BOOK OR BINDER) • PENCIL We will utilize an interactive notebook that they will add work to for each class meeting. This way they have notes and examples to take home. This will also encourage more organization and follow through with their work.
