About This Activity
Description
Elementary school kids can learn how to ice skate afterschool with transportation conveniently provided. Students arrive at Stephen C. Ice Arena for a 30-minute skating lesson followed by free-skate time to practice their new skills on-ice.
Skate and helmet rental is included for all participants (students are welcome to bring their own skates and ski helmet if desired). Figure skates or hockey skates? It's your choice!
Register early as this program will fill!
The goal of this program is to introduce new students to ice skating and to improve skills of returning students. Kids grades K-5 are divided into groups based on their current skating skills - all abilities are welcome. Within their skill level, coaches guide students to gain confidence, proficiency and to have FUN!
Students are expected to dress warm with a jacket and gloves. Snow pants are recommended, and yes...please make sure children are wearing SOCKS! Enrollment is session-based only - no drop-ins allowed.
Six available registration sessions:
Monday Afterschool:
January 22nd - February 12th,
February 26th - April 8th. ( No class March 18th)
April 29th - May 20th.
Wednesday Afterschool:
January 10th - February 14th. (No class Jan 31st)
February 28th - April 10th
May 1st - May 22nd.
Transportation is provided from Upper Blue and Breckenridge Elementary. Students from Breckenridge Elementary walk from school to the ice rink with a Breckenridge Recreation Center staff member or coach. Students not attending Breckenridge schools are encouraged to participate, but need to provide their own transportation.
Participants pick up will take place promptly at 5:15pm.
Classes are held on an ice rink so please dress in warm, comfortable clothing. Mittens or gloves and snow pants are highly recommended for never-ever skaters as they may spend some time on the ice while learning to skate.
